HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT

Estate Planning Designed for Real Life

Estate planning should give you clarity—not leave you with a binder of documents you do not understand and instructions you are unsure how to complete.

At Adelman Bodner Law Firm, PLLC, we begin by learning about your family, property, finances, concerns, and long-term priorities. We then explain your options in plain language and help you create a plan suited to your actual circumstances.

Our goal is to provide more than completed legal forms. We want you to understand the decisions you are making, know what remains to be done after signing, and have a reliable place to turn when circumstances change.

Why Documents Alone May Not Be Enough

A will or trust reflects a particular moment in your life. It may become outdated when you:

  • Marry, divorce, or begin a new relationship;

  • Welcome a child or grandchild;

  • Buy, sell, or refinance real estate;

  • Open, close, or transfer financial accounts;

  • Change employment or retirement benefits;

  • Start, purchase, or sell a business;

  • Experience a significant change in health;

  • Begin caring for an aging parent or disabled family member; or

  • Change your intended beneficiaries or decision-makers.

The law may also change. Even well-drafted documents can produce unintended results when they are not coordinated with current assets, account ownership, and beneficiary designations.

That is why we emphasize both the creation and implementation of your plan.

A Clear and Collaborative Process

Estate planning involves important legal and financial decisions, but the process should remain understandable.

We explain the available choices, identify the practical consequences of each option, and give you an opportunity to ask questions before documents are finalized. Our recommendations are tailored to your circumstances instead of being based solely on your age, marital status, or net worth.

Depending on your needs, your plan may address:

  • The distribution and management of your property;

  • Financial decision-making during incapacity;

  • Health-care instructions and the appointment of health-care agents;

  • Guardianship planning for minor children;

  • Protection for children or other beneficiaries;

  • Real estate and business interests;

  • Trust funding and account ownership;

  • Retirement accounts and beneficiary designations;

  • Tax and long-term-care considerations; and

  • The people who will administer your affairs.

Our purpose is to help you make informed decisions and leave practical instructions for the people who may eventually need to act on your behalf.

Assistance After Signing

Signing your documents is an important milestone, but certain plans require additional implementation.

A trust, for example, may need to be funded. Real estate may need to be transferred, financial accounts may need to be retitled, and beneficiary designations may need to be reviewed. Some institutions require their own forms or an in-person visit by the account owner.

When funding assistance is included in the scope of our engagement, our team will provide instructions, prepare applicable transfer documents, and coordinate with banks, financial advisers, accountants, custodians, and other professionals as appropriate. Clients remain responsible for completing institution-specific requirements and confirming that requested changes have been processed.

Communication Without Unnecessary Surprises

We want clients to feel comfortable contacting our office when questions arise.

Whenever practicable, our estate-planning services are provided for a fee established in advance. If a request falls outside the agreed scope or requires additional work, we will discuss the anticipated fee before proceeding.

Routine questions may be handled by the appropriate member of our team. Matters requiring additional legal analysis can be scheduled with an attorney so that the necessary information is available and the conversation is productive.

Planning for Children and Other Loved Ones

Families are not all structured the same way. Our planning process considers the people who actually depend on you and the individuals you trust to make decisions.

For parents of minor children, planning may include nominating guardians, identifying temporary caregivers, and establishing appropriate financial protections. For adult beneficiaries, a trust may be appropriate when there are concerns involving disability, creditors, financial inexperience, divorce, substance use, or other circumstances.

We also help clients plan for unmarried partners, blended families, LGBTQ+ families, chosen family, aging relatives, and others whose relationships may not be fully protected by default legal rules.

Preserving More Than Property

An estate plan primarily establishes legal authority and directs the transfer of property. It can also provide an opportunity to organize important information and preserve personal guidance for the people you care about.

Some clients choose to leave letters, family histories, explanations of significant decisions, personal messages, or information about meaningful possessions. Although these materials do not replace properly executed legal documents, they can provide valuable context and connection.

We can discuss practical ways to organize and preserve these materials alongside your legal plan.
